Aglaonema Anyamanee Tricolor

SKU: 6906

DESCRIPTION

The Anyamanee Tricolor, commonly known as the Chinese Evergreen, is a cultivar of Aglaonema, a genus within the Araceae family. Native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, particularly Southeast Asia, these plants thrive in the warm, humid understory of rainforests where dappled light filters through the canopy. This variety is considered beginner-friendly, making it an excellent choice for those just starting their plant journey. Interestingly, Aglaonemas have been shown in NASA studies to help purify indoor air by filtering out common household toxins like benzene and formaldehyde.

FOLIAGE AND GROWTH HABIT

The Anyamanee Tricolor grows in an upright, bushy habit with stems that emerge from a central crown. Its lance-shaped leaves are the real showstopper, displaying a stunning blend of pink, cream, and green variegation that creates a watercolour effect across each leaf. The foliage has a smooth, slightly waxy texture that catches light beautifully, and the vibrant pink tones become more pronounced in brighter conditions.

FLOWER DETAILS

While grown primarily for its foliage, mature Aglaonema Anyamanee plants may produce small, inconspicuous flowers typical of the Araceae family. These blooms consist of a creamy-white spathe surrounding a spadix and carry little to no fragrance. The flowers aren't particularly showy and often go unnoticed beneath the dramatic foliage. Flowering occurs sporadically, usually in spring or summer when the plant is well-established and receiving optimal care. To encourage flowering, maintain consistent warmth, humidity, and provide balanced fertilizer during the growing season, though most growers appreciate this plant purely for its leaves.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • 🌞 Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates low light conditions. Needs approximately 6-8 hours of filtered light daily. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the leaves and fade the pink variegation.
  • 💧 Water: Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry, typically every 7-10 days in spring and summer, less frequently in autumn and winter. Use room-temperature water and allow excess to drain completely. Bottom watering works well to prevent crown rot.
  • 🌡️ Humidity: Prefers 50-70% humidity but adapts to average home conditions around 40%. Higher humidity enhances leaf colour and prevents crispy edges.
  • 🪴 Soil: Requires well-draining, peat-based or coco coir mix with perlite or orchid bark for aeration. Slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0) is ideal.
  • 🏺 Potting: Use a pot with drainage holes, sized 2-5 cm larger than the root ball. Terracotta or plastic both work well. Repot every 2-3 years or when roots appear crowded.
  • 🌱 Growth rate: Moderate growth, producing 3-5 new leaves over 6 months under good conditions. Reaches 30-45 cm in a year, with mature plants achieving 60-90 cm in height and width.
  • 👩‍🌾 Fertilizing: Feed monthly during spring and summer with diluted balanced liquid fertilizer (20-20-20). Reduce to every 6-8 weeks in autumn and pause in winter.
  • 🐾 Pet friendly: No. Contains calcium oxalate crystals that are toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion can cause oral irritation, drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep out of reach of curious pets.

WHERE TO PUT IT

This Aglaonema fits beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, or bathrooms where its vibrant foliage adds a tropical touch without demanding intense light. It works wonderfully on shelves, tabletops, or plant stands where the colourful leaves can be admired up close. Avoid placing it in drafty areas near heating vents, air conditioners, or cold windows during winter, as temperature fluctuations can stress the plant and cause leaf drop.
