Anthurium BVEP 6430
🌿 The Anthurium BVEP 6430 is a stunning cultivar belonging to the Araceae family, originally from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. This intermediate-level plant features unique foliage that sets it apart from standard Anthurium varieties. In its natural habitat, Anthuriums grow as epiphytes on tree trunks and branches, absorbing moisture and nutrients from the humid air and organic debris. Fun fact: Anthurium flowers aren't actually flowers at all—the colourful heart-shaped part is a modified leaf called a spathe, while the true flowers are the tiny bumps on the central spike.
FOLIAGE AND GROWTH HABIT
This compact Anthurium displays an upright growth habit with moderately sized leaves that emerge from a central crown. The foliage showcases deep green colouring with a smooth, slightly waxy texture that reflects light beautifully. Leaves develop prominent veining and maintain their structural integrity well, creating a tidy appearance without sprawling or trailing. New leaves unfurl tightly rolled before gradually opening to reveal their full form.
FLOWER DETAILS
The BVEP 6430 produces characteristic Anthurium spathes in shades ranging from coral to salmon pink, depending on light conditions and plant maturity. The spadix contrasts nicely against the spathe, creating visual interest. While not heavily fragrant, the blooms have a subtle, fresh scent. Each flower can last several weeks, and with proper care—including consistent warmth, humidity, and occasional feeding—this Anthurium can bloom multiple times throughout the year. To encourage more frequent flowering, maintain stable temperatures above 18°C and provide bright indirect light without direct sun exposure.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- 🌞 Light: Bright indirect light for 6-8 hours daily. Avoid direct sun which can scorch leaves. East or north-facing windows work well
- 💧 Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when top 3-5 cm feels dry—usually weekly in summer, every 10-14 days in winter. Bottom watering or careful top watering work best
- 🌡️ Humidity: Prefers 60-80% humidity. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other plants
- 🪴 Soil: Chunky, well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir. Needs excellent aeration
- 🏺 Potting: Shallow pot with drainage holes, slightly snug fit. Terracotta or plastic both work. Repot every 2-3 years in spring
- 🌱 Growth rate: Moderate pace. Produces 3-5 new leaves in 6 months, 6-10 in a year. Mature size reaches 30-45 cm tall and 25-35 cm wide
- 👩🌾 Fertilizing: Feed monthly from spring through early fall with diluted balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce to every 6-8 weeks in winter
- 🐾 Pet friendly: No. Contains calcium oxalate crystals toxic to cats and dogs. Can cause oral irritation, drooling, and stomach upset if chewed
WHERE TO PUT IT
Position your Anthurium on a bright bathroom counter where it benefits from shower humidity, on a shelf near an east-facing window in a living room, or on a desk in a home office with supplemental humidity. Works beautifully in bedrooms with humidifiers running overnight. Avoid placing near heating vents, air conditioners, or drafty doorways where temperature fluctuations stress the plant. Keep away from south or west windows where harsh afternoon sun can damage foliage.
