Hoya bella ‘Albomarginata’ 🌿
Scientific name: Hoya bella ‘Albomarginata’ (a variegated cultivar of the species Hoya bella).
Origin: Native to Southeast Asian tropical forests; the variegated form has been selected in cultivation for its decorative white-edged leaves.
Key features: A trailing/ vining wax-plant characterised by slender vines and small, lance-shaped leaves edged in creamy white (albo-marginata) contrasting with green centres. The foliage remains compact yet elegant, making it ideal for hanging baskets or shelf displays. Occasional fragrant clusters of star-shaped wax-flowers add charm when the plant is mature.

FLOWER DETAILS

This cultivar produces delicate clusters of star-shaped flowers, typically white with blush-pink centres and a waxy texture. Blooming is more frequent under good light and stable environment, but foliage is the main appeal rather than heavy flowering.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light; a bit of morning or filtered sun helps maintain vibrant variegation.

  • 💧 Water: Allow the top layer of the soil to dry slightly before watering; avoid letting the soil become fully soggy.

  • 🌡️ Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity—regular humidity helps keep the edges crisp and prevent browning.

  • 🪴 Soil: Use a well-draining mix (e.g., orchid bark/perlite/peat combination) that allows airflow around roots.

  • 🏺 Potting: Best grown in hanging pots or mounted; repot only when rootbound to preserve vigour.

  • 🌱 Growth rate: Moderate; with proper care the vine will extend and form a graceful trailing habit.

  • 🐾 Pet friendly: Not pet-safe if ingested—like many Hoyas, may cause irritation.

WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT?

This plant brings a refined touch of decoration with its crisp white-edged leaves, offering light contrast and elegance in indoor green collections. Its trailing habit gives soft movement and it adds sophistication to shelves or hanging display areas. For lovers of variegation, its subtle white margins provide visual interest without being overly showy.
