Curly Lipstick Plant
Curly Lipstick Plant 🌿 (Aeschynanthus radicans ‘Curly’ / ‘Rasta’) is a trailing epiphytic vine from the humid tropics of Southeast Asia, where it naturally grows on trees and rocks in warm, shaded forests. Its dark green, slightly succulent leaves twist and curl along arching stems, creating a playful, textured cascade that looks beautiful in hanging baskets or on high shelves. The combination of sculptural foliage and trailing form gives this plant a very dynamic, modern look in any interior.
FLOWER DETAILS
Like other lipstick plants, the curly form produces clusters of tubular, bright red flowers that emerge from darker calyxes, strongly resembling a lipstick being pushed from its tube. Blooms typically appear during the warmer months in bright, indirect light, and a happy plant can flower repeatedly through the year, adding spots of vivid color against the deep green, curly foliage.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light; a few hours of soft morning sun is fine, but avoid harsh midday rays.
💧 Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy; allow the top 2–3 cm to dry before watering again.
🌡️ Humidity: Prefers higher humidity (around 60%+); enjoys bathrooms or grouped with other plants.
🪴 Soil: Loose, airy mix with excellent drainage (houseplant mix + orchid bark + perlite).
🏺 Potting: Likes a slightly snug pot; repot every 2–3 years or when clearly root-bound.
🌱 Growth rate: Moderate; regular light pruning encourages fuller, bushier vines.
🐾 Pet friendly: Commonly grown as a houseplant; if pets chew leaves, monitor and consult a vet if any irritation appears.
WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT?
This curly lipstick plant brings movement and personality to your space—its twisting leaves spill over the pot like a green ribbon, while flashes of red flowers add a bold accent. It feels lush and tropical but stays neat and contained, making it perfect for bright corners, hanging baskets, or plant shelves where you want both texture and color without taking up much floor space.
