Native to Colombia, this terrestrial Philodendron is one of the most iconic velvet-leaf aroids. Unlike climbing Philodendrons, it grows via a creeping rhizome across the soil surface, producing large, heart-shaped, velvety leaves with pale white venation. Its slow, elegant growth and dramatic foliage make it a collector’s favorite.

FLOWER DETAILS
Blooms are rare in cultivation. When present, they consist of a cream to pale green spathe surrounding a yellowish spadix. The flowers are understated, with the foliage being the plant’s primary ornamental feature.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun that can burn velvety leaves.

  • 💧 Water: Keep soil evenly moist; allow the top 2–3 cm to dry slightly before rewatering.

  • 🌡️ Humidity: Prefers high humidity (65–80%) for optimal leaf size and velvety texture.

  • 🪴 Soil: Rich, airy aroid mix with orchid bark, peat, and perlite.

  • 🏺 Potting: Use wide, shallow pots to allow rhizome crawling; repot every 1–2 years.

  • 🌱 Growth rate: Slow to moderate; typically produces 1–2 new leaves every 3–4 months.

  • 🐾 Pet friendly: No – toxic if ingested by pets.
